How to find your Ideal Restaurant Customers?

In any business it is important to know your customers. To be able to run a successful Restaurant business, you need to pick a right Location and find out who you are serving. It is all about Location and Customers. It is crucial to find out who your Ideal Restaurant Customers are, so that you build the entire business around serving your customers needs. Their age group, their financial status, what do they do, how do they spend their spare time, their habits, where do they spend their time online, their spending habits, how they socialise and etc.

So, here are 7 Questions you might want to ask yourself to identify your ideal customers:

  1. Who are they? What are their demographics? Age, Married, Children, Income and etc
  2. Where do they live?
  3. What do they do for fun? Their Habits?
  4. Their spending Habits
  5. What do they read, watch, play, how do they spend their time, websites they visit regularly, what type of apps they use, what social media platforms they use the most?
  6. What is important to them? What are their goals?
  7. What are their problems, pain points, struggles?

Generally speaking, the idea behind all this is not just technically “know” them. But what we really trying to achieve is to understand what makes them buy what you are offering. What is the emotion behind it? So, you shouldn’t really be spending a lot of time trying to answer the questions above. Those questions will help you to identify who your customers are and who to target, where to look for and etc. But the main question is to understand the emotion behind the purchase. You basically, need to ask chain of “WHY” questions. For example Customer A wants to do “x”. Why does he/she does that? Because he/she wants to do “y”. Why does he/she wants to do “y”? Because he/she wants “z” and etc. You need to dig deep.

This way of identifying a Customer Avatar is valid for Restaurants as well. I am going to give you 3 great tools to help you to answer those questions:

  1. Facebook Audience Insights
  2. Similar Web (website traffic analytics tool)
  3. magazines.com (interest based research)

Use Facebook Audience Insights to learn more on this. Start your Research based on what you already know about your Ideal Customers and expand the idea. This tool will help you to learn a lot more about your Ideal Customers, things that you didn’t know about them before.

Similar Web is another Tool to find out more about your Ideal Customers. You can see what websites they visit, what Social Media they use , what they search and how they find the websites they visit, how long they stay there

If you want to find out what magazines they read, go to magazines.com and search magazines on those topics. You will find local magazines, national and international magazines. This is just 1 example of doing interest based Research. You can find another web directory to find out for example movies they watch, music they listen and etc.

That is about it. If you have any suggestions, please comment below. Thanks for reading.
